about

Indigo Soul’s forthcoming release sees South East London’s 20 year old Poppy Ajudha step into the limelight with ‘David’s Song.’ Steeped in jazz and soul, the singer's delivery recalls Ella Fitzgerald or even Amy Winehouse, allied to the spirituality of Alice Coltrane or Pharoah Sanders.

In Poppy’s words, ‘I wrote the song for David Turay, a good friend and an amazing saxophonist [who’s virtuosic playing is sampled in the song]. David passed away in late November last year. The song is for him, for me and for anyone who has lost someone close to them. Writing it was the only way I could make sense of what I was feeling. Mostly I wish he could have known how much we cared about him, and I feel like I’m telling him every time I sing his song.’

Remixes come from man of the moment, Tom Misch, who takes the tune into J Dilla territory, a bouncy 6/8 remix from Imagined Herbal Flows and a jazz-strewn House remix by Uffe (Pets Recordings/Tartelet).
